SMS December 2011 Giveaway (CLOSED)
Hi and welcome if you’ve popped over from Sew, Mama, Sew! to have a look at what I’m giving away this time. I’m not going to keep you long because I know there are lots of giveaways to enter this year.
Anyway, for those of you visiting for the first time, my name is Vicky, I’m a SAHM to a nearly 5 and 2 year old. For those of you with children, you know that looking after them takes up most of our time but with what little time I have left, I like to escape to my sewing space and have some “me” time.
I started this blog nearly 2 years ago at my brother’s suggestion to pretty much keep a photo record of what I’ve made. Two years on, I’m still HTML challenged, my blog could use a design update, I still take photos with my point and shoot camera on automatic setting but I’ve had fun sharing my projects with everyone. If you have time, stay and poke around, otherwise, I hope to see you back soon.
Now on to the important end of business, what I am giving away today. Are you itching to find out?
First up, I’m giving away 2 fat quarters of hard to find Heather Ross Mendocino, Underwater SIsters in Gold and Giant Octopus in Orange from my stash. They are both brand new and unwashed.
I’m also giving away this circle scarf made from Anna Maria Horner’s really, really soft voile. One side is her Innocent Crush Shattered in Sun and the other is Little Folks Pastry Line in Magenta. It measures about 50″ which might be snug for some but great for younger girls perhaps.
Included are this wooden button paperclip bookmark and baby felt hair clip.
Now for the nitty-gritty. I’m using Rafflecopter to host the giveaway hoping to make it easier for everyone. Yes, that’s everyone, meaning I will ship internationally.
For a chance to win either the fabrics or scarf, can you help me with a name for my dream shop selling handmade goodies (I’m really stuck for ideas). Let me know in the comments. Also let me know which prize you would like to be entered for.
Two winners will be chosen randomly when the giveaway closes on December 16 2011 at 5pm PST (which means it should be December 17 2011 at 12noon EST, that’s Australian time). Winners will be contacted and prizes sent soon after.
Thanks for visiting and good luck!
psss…..if you’re having trouble with Rafflecopter let me know in the comments and I’ll enter you in manually.
The giveaway is now closed. Thank you to all those who have entered the giveaway and good luck.

Thanks for the chance at the giveaways. Loooove the mendocino fabric.
Honestly … your blog name should probably lend itself to a business name of sorts. Craftcidental Creations. Maybe. That’s really bad. I do like Accidental Crafter for a shop name. I think that works because you’re not married to keeping it for only sewing.

I agree with the previous commenters that keeping a shop name and blog name similar is helpful…..I often look at the blogs for shops I like to get ideas and inspiration. That said, after looking at your blog it appears you are in Australia…I love Australian crafters….you could emphasize that with Down Under Crafter or something like that. Merry Christmas!

I am so sorry… I am horrible with naming things like a shop! If you have a baby you need named, I’ll totally help out, though!
I will say to focus on your name or something central to your style/beliefs/etc. You don’t want to have to change the shop name if your crafty interests change.
I HEART Mendocino! Thanks for the chance! -
I’m with the majority. I would stick with the Accidental Crafter because I think it is such a brilliant blog name. It took me days to come up with my blog name and I still think it is rather pathetic. You’ve got a great name that people already associate with you. Stick to it.
As for which prize. I think they are both fab and I would be happy with either. Honestly!

Oh man, coming up with names is tough. For my etsy shop I used my two oldest kids’ names spelled backward. Emma and Ben = Amme and Neb. My husband has always told them bedtime stories using their backwards names as the heros, so it’s an endearing name to me. So I guess my suggestion is something sentimental.

I’d love to win the fabric!! -

Rafflecopter didn’t work for me, probably because of our desperately slow internet connection. Thanks for the manual entry.
I would love the Heather Ross fabric–thanks for being so generous.
As for your shop, I’d go with “The Accidental Crafter’s Shop”–you have established a name and it’s worth sticking with. (Sorry for ending with a preposition.)
-
My first idea for name of your shop is “Accidentally gorgeous”, but I’m not sure if it’s a good name (you made lovely things not by accident!). The second thought is really obvious: name of your blog. It would be easy to find you and search engines are really helpful for bloggers, so your customers will easily find you.
PS. My choice would be HR fabrics, but it wasn’t easy to pick (the scarf is so lovely!). -

I would love to get my hands on this fabric! ^^
A name is always difficult to find… I would stay on your blog name because this is something you already associate with yourself… otherwise I would use something related… like just per chance… I just love the word “serendipity” but likely to be taken already? But happenstance… happen upon…

Hmm…I like shop names that either match the blog name or the name of the person. The nice thing about incorporating your name is that you can change your style as you evolve and not feel tied to a name that fit your earlier work, if that makes sense.
Thanks for the chance! I truly like them both very much…but lean toward the fabric since I consider myself a mermaid with legs.
-
-
I’m not that good at naming things but I think you should keep the name of your blog at least as part of the shop’s name, like The Accidental Crafter Shop. It would be easier for your readers to find your shop

As for the giveaway, the scarf is lovely but I can’t resist those mermaids so please count me in for the fabrics, thanks!

I actually think that keeping Accidental Crafter as a shop name would be great. It’s something that people will remember without being too narrow, too broad or too cutesy.
As far as the giveaway goes, I’d love to be considered for the fabric, please. The scarf is just lovely, but I really heart the Mendocino fabrics!
Thank you for taking part in Giveaway Day and for offering up such great prizes!

-
I would love to win both but I think I will have to go with the scarf and clips – they are my kind of colours. I think you should try mixing some of the letters from your kids names. For example my mum’s crafting business name is Jabico (from Jodi Abby and Colin). Just play with the letters till you find something you like.
-
-
I agree with those who suggested you keep your current name The Accidental Crafter sounds like a good shop name to me!
It’s awfully hard to decide between fabric and that pretty scarf (I’m giving away two scarves made of AMH voile for giveaway day too!). But I have a lot of the fabric already and the scarf is lovely, so I’ll put my name in for that!

How about “Bliss”?? I love the scarf!! Thanks. Amy @ gasudimack@sbcglobal.net

I think you need to think of something that says what you are about without being too generic. That’s not totally helpful. Hmm . . . it needs to be unique enough to be seen as not just one of the other millions of shops on Etsy, etc, but not so weird no one will remember how to spell it and so on. I’d tend to try to tie it up with your blog somehow since you already have some name recognition there.
-
I am not creative in this way, I always daydream about a shop and can never come up with a good name for me either. What if you used “the accidental shop” or something to correspond with your blog? Maybe “Sew Serendipitous”? Get it, happy accident in sewing??? I actually like that a lot, hope you do.
I would be happy to win either prize, they are are both gorgeous!!!

-
-
Actually I think you should just use your blog name for your shop – it’s actually a good idea from a marketing standpoint because it creates cross-branding (I used to work in advertising before becoming a librarian). If you wanted to you could change it up a bit to something like The Accidental Crafter: Handmade or something along that line.

I love that scarf – and if it’s really too small for me, i can share with my daughters…
As for your shop name, I think you have enough ideas to open a dozen shops now, but I agree with others that it’s good branding to keep the same name as your blog. Besides, it’s a great name! Or you could shorten it to Accidental Crafts so that it’s not about you but your products. -
-
-
i guess I’ll go for the fabric–I’m a big girl! ( even though I totally love the scarf!)
A name, huh? WEll, I looked around your blog and one of the titles under “bags, totes, purses” was “Instant Gratification” and I think that’s perfect! It’s sort of a subliminal thing, you know, something that most people are looking for today! -

I love Mendocino! A couple of years ago I made all of the little girls that came to my daughter’s birthday party a little purse from the Mendocino line and used the rest to make her a quilt. She sleeps with it every night!
A shop name…I’m awful at this. It took me a month to decide on my blog name. You could just use your blog name because it’s very distinctive and easy to remember, plus your blog readers would know what to look for… -

Oh wow I am really bad at thinking up names for things, is there an anogram you can make from your childrens names, that might work for a shop name. I would love to win the fabric I did not discover Heather Ross untill a few months ago and getting most of her fabrics is next to impossible now. Thanks for the chance to win

I love the name of your blog. I think that as a shop name it would be cute. It’s witty and easy to remember because of it’s “fun-ness”. It has a broad audience. Sorry if I’m not that much help.
I love the fabrics you used on the scarf. And I’d love to get my hands on those Mendocino fat quarters (along with the rest of the world). I just recently got into the fabric world, so I missed my chance on that gorgeous fabric. -

Oh my, those fabrics would love it at my house!
You know, I’ve know about your blog for a long time and find The Accidental Crafter to be the kind of blog name that sticks in your head and conjures up a lovely, cozy kind of feeling. If it suits what you’re selling ok, I say stick with it. Accidental Crafts, perhaps? Thanks for the giveaway chance, and good luck with the naming and selling! -

Oh that fabric stash would be awesome! Of course I’d have to find the courage to use it rather than stroke it gently ;P
I love The Accidental Crafter, or just Accidental Crafter. It covers a range of crafts and is strikes my interest, making me want to know more about what you get up to.
Thanks for the great giveaway!
