Bag making books
When I first started sewing a couple of years ago, for some reason or another, I found myself drawn to sewing bags for both children and adults. Actually, the first bag I made was a kids messenger bag from this tutorial. I’d even added a pocket for my daughter’s coloured pencils and was so proud that I could follow instructions and it actually looked like the one in the tutorial.
So I’m always on the look out for bag making books with lots of eye candy it them and guess what? I found 3 that I must have on my bookshelf.

First one is The Bag Making Bible by Lisa Lam. Lisa owns an online store called U-Handbag over in the UK which sells anything and everything you might need for making a bag. She also has a wonderful blog, which has free tutorials and lots of wonderful tips to get you started on your first bag or purse or to fine tune your bag making skills. Can’t wait for the book to come out in September.

The second book is Amy Butler’s Style Stitches 12 Easy Ways to 26 Wonderful Bags! and who seriously doesn’t know Amy Butler? She is a fabric designer, pattern designer, home goods designer, paper craft designer, rug designer (the wallflower would have to be my favourite or is it bright buds?) and now, a wall paper designer with GRAHAM & BROWN (do they ship to Australia?). Love Amy Butler, so will be waiting impatiently for her book to come out in August.
Last, but not least will be Nicole Mallalieu’s new book. I was so excited when I read this because I like her patterns and I just can’t wait to see what she has in her book. I wish I was in Melbourne though as I would love to attend one of her bag making classes. Nevertheless, she does have great sewing tips and tutorial on her website. By the way, check out her shop, Nicole Mallalieu Design for all your handbag and purse making supplies, as well as her blog, You SEW, girl!
