Your Friendly Ripper!

Seam rippers, that is!
As I embark on this journey of teaching myself to sew, I realise I need to make mistakes in order to improve, and to make the seam ripper my friend.
I guess for most of us, we would use the seam ripper that came with the sewing machine (mine was the one withe brush at the end), which I did, until I broke it. Then off to the dollar store to buy a replacement, which I found it uncomfortable to use because of the short skinny handle.

So, finally decided to shell out the big bucks and got myself this – a Fons & Porter ergonomic seam ripper and wow! Definitely worth it. So much more comfortable to hold – I can hold it like a pen, and the blade – Japanese made steel, is so sharp that it doesn’t require much effort at all to cut the stitches.
Oh and also learnt how to remove stitches quickly – just cut the stitches on one side only, every fourth or so stitch, do this till the end then pull the thread away on the other side and they all should come apart. How quick and easy is that (I wish I could find the video to show you how it’s done).
So tell me, do you have a favourite seam ripper? Do you have more than one?
