When I had my first child 3 years ago, I didn’t know nursing covers existed.  Even though I was  not embarrassed to breastfeed in public, I noticed that others around me were.  Three years on with baby number 2, I decided to make one for myself (after seeing a friend using one she made herself).

I am not sure who came up with the idea first but there are plenty of tutorials out there.  I was inspired by this tutorial from TaDa! Creations to have a contrasting accent strip on the cover.

Then it was this tutorial from Shannon makes stuff to make it reversible and not having to use D rings.

Because the cover is so useful (can be used also as a sunshade or blanket for the baby) and I had enough boning for one more cover, I made an unlined one for a new mother at church.  I think this makes a wonderful gift to any breastfeeding mothers.

I added plastic snaps to the strap loop as my machine could not handle 7 layers of home dec fabric plus boning.  But I thought it looked really cute anyhow.
