My Creative Space – AVA Pleated Skirt
Little Miss has been asking for more dresses, ten to be precise. I haven’t yet obliged with the request but thought I might get away with sewing a skirt instead.
This is a Modkid sewing pattern by Patty Young called the AVA pleated skirt. I didn’t intend to use this pink gothic flower fabric (from Patty Young’s Mezzanine collection), because I thought it was too busy for the pleats to stand out. But I made a cutting error for the AVA top (pictures hopefully to follow soon) and didn’t want to waste it.

I have to admit that I thought this fabric looked rather festive but it’s growing on me. I really need to perfect my ruffling technique though as I don’t seem to get the nice, dainty pleats that most patterns call for yet. I’m going to try this Fine Gathering Technique and this 3 row basting gathering next to see if my ruffling improves. What method works for you? And do you sew with the gathers up (smooth side down) or the gathers down (smooth side up)?
Oh, and I was so sure that I could convince her that skirts are impractical especially when climbing but she proved me wrong.
Playing along at our creative spaces, check out what the others are up to today,
Looks great! It’s fresh and summery looking, and your daughter seems to be having a great time wearing it. WIN!
