my daughter loves handmade…

FINALLY!!!

Remember when pettiskirts were all the rage?  I was crazy enough to sew one in summer 2009 because I thought I could save myself some money by doing it myself.  But it was an effort just to finish it.  Lots of fabric strips to cut, sew and ruffle.  But the pettiskirt was finished (2 weeks later).  Then to my disappointment, my little girl was not interested in it at all – what, after all that effort.

And for a few good months afterward, she wasn’t really interested in wearing anything I made for her…

which was disheartening until recently.

Now I can’t keep up with her requests.  Just this last weekend, she attended a birthday party that required her to dress up as a princess and so she wanted me to make her a felt crown.

I used the crown template from  Juicy Bits’ tutorial and embellished it with yoyos.  The yoyo idea came from Melissa Averinos’ book - Small Stash Sewing and is a bit different to the usual stars and flowers.

I’d even used some fancy stitches on the bottom…

and the elasticated back means she gets to wear it for a few more years yet.

Here is another action shot of my little girl wearing the items I made for her.
