Yep, the titles are getting worse, but seriously at this time of the year, I can’t think anymore.

As I mentioned in my previous post, black is not a usual colour I would dress my daughter in.  Actually, the older folks, e.g.  grandmothers, aunties etc do no like seeing little girls wearing black at all.

But because little miss finishes preschool this year, for graduation she needed to wear a white top with either a black skirt or pants, again both of which she doesn’t own.  Luckily for her, her mother sews and came up with this little number inspired by one of her baby skirt.

After finishing the peasant dress, I had just enough fabric for a skirt.  It’s a simple elastic waist skirt with a flat front,

and elastic at the back.  I used the whole width of the fabric to give the skirt enough twirliness.  Overall, the skirt was ok considering that I was winging it.

But of course I was being a big generous with sizing and had to take the sides in.  The drop waist bit could be a little shorter.

The gathering improved by using a smaller stitch with a lower tension on the machine following this advice.

She’s only worn this twice (once  more than the dress).  She did say she preferred the skirt over the dress but I don’t see her wearing it too often.  So there you have it, my two sewing black projects, now back to sewing some colour.

And yes, she’s officially finished preschool – class of 2011.

Looking forward to Kindergarten next year.
