Sew Spoiled Weekender Tote Sew-A-Long: Pockets & Magnet Clasp
Only one week left to go till this tote is finished and I had to stop myself from completing it. Normally, once I start on a project, I need to have it completed ASAP. But this week, my time has been divided over a few projects which means I haven’t completed any of them yet but will show you what I’ve been up to once they’re all done.
Anyway, we’re onto pockets.

Here are my two pocket pieces sewn together at the top and then topstitched. So far so good.

To divide the large pocket into two smaller ones, I had to use a marker to draw a line down the middle. I wanted to make sure that I was sewing a straight line and not anything else. Then I used one of this to remove the line. What does everyone use to remove their water soluble markings?

Once the two lining pieces are sewn together at the sides, I had to install a magnetic snap. I’ve only ever used these twice using these instructions and yes, I do use a hammer to flatten the prongs as I find that I’m not strong enough to bend it properly. But there are other variations on making sure that the snaps don’t tear through the fabric. Some like to reinforce the slits with a buttonhole stitch (I’ll have to learn how to use this on the sewing machine first) and Nicole, from You SEW, girl! topstitches around the snap on the right side of the fabric.
Make sure you come back here next week to see my completed tote, okay?
