Doodad Drawstring Bags

Remember how I showed you a sneak peak of my first project for 2011?

Well, here they are – drawstring bags for Sunday school 2011. You might remember that tote bags were the kids’ birthday presents last year, but with a few more children in the class this year, we thought we’ll do something easier. This surely was the answer – once everything was cut, it took me about 2 nights to put it all together in my “sweat shop” aka very hot sewing room (it was very hot last week in Sydney).
As usual, no two bags are ever the same. These are my denim and Japanese canvas combo, with the exception of the Riley Blake Brown Map (3rd bag from the front), I used fabrics from Cosmo Textile. Aren’t they cute?
I decided to add the drawstring casing to the outside of the bag for a different look, this one using Alexander Henry’s Starling Pink.

And some more Japanese fabrics, this time I experimented with the bottoms of the bags. Having flat bottomed bags means you can fit your lunch boxes and use it as cute lunch bags especially when made with nice thick Japanese canvases.

This one for the adults.

Ok, by this stage I got lazy and just did basic drawstring bags using mainly Michael Miller, Robert Kaufman, Cosmo Textiles and Alexander Henry fabrics.
I’m just so glad that they’re all done and out of the way for the rest of the year, I hope the kids like them. Do you have a favourite? I think it’ll have to be the denim/canvas combo for me.
