Quilt Binding by machine
I’ve mentioned several times before that I’ve tried sewing the binding on by machine but have just not been happy with the result. I didn’t like the fact that I had small unstitched gaps as well as not having even stitching on the outer edge of the binding on the back of the quilt. Oh, did I mention I was a perfectionist?

I think my problem lies with the pinning of the binding to the back of the quilt. In my first two attempts of sewing the binding my machine, I’ve pinned the binding on like this,

and this.

Well, this time I’ve pinned in the ditch,

and checking the back to make sure the pins have caught the binding on the back evenly. This took a while. I did think for a moment that sewing the binding on by hand would have taken just as long, but I persisted.

After all that pinning, this is what it looks like from the front, stitching in the ditch,

and the back, not too bad, huh?
If you want to stitch your binding on by machine check out Rita’s tutorial for great tips or you may want to try Pat Sloan’s method of using the blanket stitch instead.
Some great ideas there – thanks!
