Bloggers’ Quilt Festival Fall 2011

Except that it’s Spring here in Australia and hooray for November. I had a crazy last week in October that kept me away from the computer but am glad to be back in time for Bloggers’ Quilt Festival (BQF).

This is my entry to my second BQF, I entered my first one earlier this year. Even though I have only finished this last week, this was the first quilt top I’ve pieced back in August 2010 (as seen in the background). After much encouragement, I thought I’ll try my hand at an easy beginner quilt. Each square is 11 inches (because I didn’t know then that 10″ was the standard size and there were 10″ precuts called layer cakes) using Joel Dewberry’s Ginseng line.

I had to piece the backing, even pieced the green square tile fabric so it looked like one piece of fabric instead of two. Quilting was kept very simple by outlining each square in green thread.

However, I didn’t line the back up with the front too well but I did try, promise!!!!
So this was my first quilt and I have learnt a lot since. I know everyone keeps their first quilt but I’m not sure to keep it or to give it away, makes a great picnic blanket though. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and hope you’re having fun with BQF Fall 2011. Hope to see you again soon.

Very pretty. You did a great job.
