Never fear, I’m still here …
Did anyone miss me? I wasn’t gone too long was I? I had some internet issues, well, not really an issue but I did use up our internet allowance for the month and was throttled down to dial up speed. Man, do you know how SLOW it was? I would have finished breakfast, do the dishes, hang out the washing, tidy up the house and the page would still be downloading. It’s like watching paint drying. Anyway, back to normal speed now. Note to self: Must use internet between midnight and 4pm.

I’ve been rather unproductive lately, just feeling a bit ‘blah’. Just tidied up my sewing room, so I’m hoping that it’ll want to make me go in there. But I’ve been making these fabric yo-yos, though for no particular reason except to use up my accumulating scrap pile.

There are tonnes of tutorials out there but I particularly like Heather Bailey’s one. I cut out cardboard circle templates using my Olfa circle cutter and actually traced the template onto the RIGHT side of my fabric. I then cut an extra 1/4″ seam allowance around the traced circle and fold along the traced line to ensure a perfect circle when sewing. What can I say, I’m a perfectionist.

And here they are, all stacked upon one another. The largest yo-yo was 3 inches and the smallest at 1 inch reminds me of the little flower icing you get on cupcakes. So cute.

Oh and here’s another way to bust through your scraps, the latest craze at the moment – paper piecing hexagons. I’ve been seeing them everywhere on quilt blogs that I had to eventually give them a go. And yes, they are addictive – I’m doing 1 inch hexies but it can be any size you wish using this template generator.

There are so many ways of doing the hexagons, like
- no need to cut the fabric into hexagons,
- no need to baste through the papers,
- no need to use the papers at all
- no need to hand sew the hexagons together
Well, mine are cut fabric into hexagon shape, basting through the papers (leaving long tails behind) and I guess, I’ll be had sewing them, although I could cheat and machine them down for embellishment purposes. I doubt I’ll be making a quilt with them anytime soon cos I’ll need gazillions of them.
Anyway, want to join in the hexie craze?
YES! I’d love to join the hexie craze, but I was NOT going to hand piece them. Thanks for the link to ladyharvatine’s video on machine piecing
