this is not but I do have lots of food photos coming up.  You see I heard the Malaysia Kitchen Food Market was on this week in Sydney, so with 2 kids and my brother (who is down here for the weekend) in tow, we headed into the city.  Now I was forewarned about the extra long queue to this event but did not realise that there were only 250 covers for each session, so when we rocked up at 1pm, it was already sold out.  Boohoo hoo!!!

So what now?  We headed to Mamak which I had heard so much about but have never been since they opened in 2008 (I don’t go to the city often).  I wanted to see what all the hype was about.  And guess what?  There was a queue here too, mind you, it wasn’t a long one but a queue nonetheless.

By the way, I actually didn’t plan on taking photos of my lunch (or dinner for that matter) but was mucking around with the settings on my camera, I thought I might as well show you some of my favourite Malaysian hawker foods.

First up, roti telur, translated literally to egg bread – an Indian dish more like a fried pancake with an egg inside.  We would normally have it for breakfast in Malaysia but can really be eaten any time of the day cos it’s so yummy.

Ice Coffee White

Now I would normally have teh tarik (pulled tea – yes, direct translation) with the roti telur but I really needed the caffeine in the Malaysian coffee to wake me up, so I got myself a kopi ais (ice coffee) or kopi peng as I used to call it as a child.

Then for dinner, it was more Malaysian food at Malaysia O’Town Kopitiam in Croydon, NSW.We ordered nasi lemak (fatty rice), which is supposedly the national dish of Malaysia.  The chicken curry was yum!!!

So was the nasi goreng (fried rice).

One of my favourite dishes – char hor fun (fried flat rice noodles).

For dessert, a Malaysian classic – ais kachang (peanut ice) also known as ABC (air batu campur) back in Malaysia.

These are just some of my favourite Malaysian hawker foods.  Do you like Malaysian food?  Have you tried it before?  Do you have a favourite Malaysian restuarant?
